So far, 0.77 inches of rain have fallen since 11:30 last night here in Millersville. The first round of heavy rain will be tapering off in a few hours, but that isn’t the end of the storm. Here is the National Weather Service’s take on how the rest of the day will play out:
CURRENT ANALYSIS SHOWS A STRONG COLD FRONT OVER THE OHIO AND TENNESSEE VALLEYS. LOW PRESSURE IS DEVELOPING ALONG THE COLD FRONT OVER THE TENNESSEE VALLEY. A WARM FRONT OUT AHEAD OF THIS SYSTEM IS LOCATED OVER SOUTHERN VIRGINIA.
LOW PRESSURE WILL CONTINUE TO INTENSIFY ALONG THE COLD FRONT AS IT MOVES THROUGH THE OHIO VALLEY THIS MORNING AND INTO OUR AREA THIS AFTERNOON.
THERE WILL LIKELY BE A BREAK IN THE PRECIPITATION LATER THIS MORNING INTO EARLY THIS AFTERNOON BEFORE THE COLD FRONT MOVES INTO THE REGION. A BAND OF RAIN CAN BE SEEN ALONG THE FRONT OVER THE OHIO AND TENNESSEE VALLEYS… LOCALLY HEAVY RAINFALL IS EXPECTED WITH MANY LOCATIONS PICKING UP CLOSE TO AN INCH OF RAIN WITHIN A SIX HOUR PERIOD. THE GROUND IS ALREADY SATURATED DUE TO THE RECENT RAINFALL OVER THE LAST WEEK. FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT THIS AFTERNOON.
SEVERE WEATHER IS ALSO A CONCERN THIS AFTERNOON… DAMAGING WINDS AND ISOLATED TORNADOES MAY OCCUR GIVEN THE LOW AND MID-LEVEL SHEAR PROFILES. WILL CONTINUE TO MONITOR THROUGHOUT THE MORNING. THE BEST CHANCE FOR SEVERE T-STORMS OR ISOLATED TORNADOES WILL BE ACROSS CENTRAL VIRGINIA INTO LOWER SOUTHERN MARYLAND.
