As cold air continues to filter into the area, a low pressure system is expected develop off the Carolina coast and move up the eastern seaboard this weekend. Overnight Friday and Saturday, the system will bring rain to most of the state, while more cold air is drawn into the system, changing the rain to snow.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for all of Northern Maryland where they believe 5 or more inches of snow may fall after the change over:
Further south, the change over will take longer to occur and lesser amounts of snow will fall.
After the storm passes by, skies will clear and temperatures will fall to, or below freezing in most areas on Saturday night.
This is an extremely tricky forecast and exact snowfall totals will be nailed down today, but be prepared for several inches of early season snowfall tomorrow especially in Northern Maryland.
