A cold front will move across the area this afternoon into tonight, bringing relief from the heat and humidity. Yesterday we hit 100 degrees both here and at the airport. This tied the record set in 1923.
After a low of only 78 this morning, temperatures will climb into the low 90s this afternoon. The heat and humidity will combine with the front to allow showers and thunderstorms to develop this afternoon. Some of these storms could become severe, with damaging winds and dangerous lightning as the primary threats.
The front will cross this evening and tonight, pushing the showers and storms off the coast by morning. Cooler and drier air builds in behind the front as skies clear tomorrow. Highs tomorrow and Sunday will be in the mid to upper 80s with less humidity.
Another cold front will push through Sunday night, bringing a slight chance of showers during the overnight. A second front will move through Monday afternoon with more showers and thunderstorms possible.
The pattern as we move into next week looks to change, leading to more cloud cover and cooler temperatures for the middle to latter half of the work week.
