The National Weather Service has just thrown in the towel for us here in central Maryland. All warnings/advisories dropped for S. Baltimore, Baltimore City, Anne Arundel, Calvert and St. Mary’s counties.
The Winter Storm Warning has been downgraded to a Winter Weather Advisory for counties north and west of I-95.
Expect rain or a rain/snow mix to continue through this evening, possibly heavy at times. Little to no snow accumulation is expected along and east of I-95 while an additional inch or two may accumulate west of I-95.
In the end, the easterly flow was much too strong due to the storm moving east or even southeast over Virginia, allowing warm air off the Atlantic to overspread central and eastern Maryland. Temperatures were already going to be marginal for snow accumulation so the additional surge of warm air was just too much to overcome. Further west, the snow continues to fall and pile up as expected.
It was an extremely difficult forecast and I ended up completely wrong across central Maryland. I expected a change over this morning that never occurred.
Further west, I was generally correct, although most of the totals are on the low end of my ranges.
Here are the latest snowfall totals with my forecast in parentheses:
