Summary: High pressure over the western Atlantic controls the weather into the weekend. A weak cold front will move through on Saturday.
High pressure over the western Atlantic ocean will continue to hot and humid air up the east coast. As a result, temperatures in our area will top 90 degrees today. The heat, combined with high dew points will make it feel close to 100. There is a slight chance of a pop up shower or thunderstorm this afternoon or evening, mainly across southern Maryland.
Additionally, a “Code Orange” Air Quality Alert has been issued for all counties east of the mountains.
Highs will be a few degrees warmer tomorrow, reaching the mid 90s in most areas. There is a better chance of pop up showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening.
Friday will see highs in the mid 90s to possibly upper 90s with isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Heat index values will approach 105 degrees in the metro areas.
A mainly dry frontal passage is expected on Saturday but highs will still top out in the mid 90s.
We should “cool” a bit on Sunday as high pressure builds in from the northwest. Highs will be in the upper 80s.
