Heavy downpours this morning

Rounds of showers with heavy downpours and gusty winds continue to move through the area this morning ahead of a cold front. A warm front is draped across the state, with temperatures in the mid 50s to low 60s south of the front, and mid to upper 40s north of it.

The cold front is expected to cross the state later this morning, bringing an end to the rain by this afternoon. Temperatures will also begin to tumble behind the front as northwest winds increase and become gusty.

Rain tonight, falling temps tomorrow

A low pressure system currently over Arkansas and Tennessee will continue its trek to the northeast. In doing so, it will bring a warm front through the area tonight, causing temperatures to rise into the 50s. The warmth will be short lived, as the system will then drag a cold front through tomorrow morning. Rain associated with the front is expected tonight and tomorrow morning. Total rainfall of up to a half inch is expected statewide.

Sunny today, rain tomorrow

Today will be mostly sunny with highs in the mid 40s. Clouds increase tonight ahead of the next weather system. A warm front will cross the area tomorrow morning, allowing light rain to develop late morning and into the afternoon. The rain will become more widespread and heavier tomorrow evening as a low pressure develops along a cold front that will cross the area late tomorrow night. Skies will begin to clear by Friday afternoon, but not before .50 to .75″ of rain has fallen.

Clearing and warmer today

A Dense Fog Advisory is in effect for North Central Maryland until 10am. Once the fog burns off, expect mostly sunny skies and temperatures into the low 50s this afternoon. Tomorrow will see more sunshine, with clouds increasing in the afternoon ahead of the next weather system.

The entire state west of the Bay is under a Winter Weather Advisory for snow, sleet and freezing rain.

Garrett County is expected to see more accumulation of snow and ice, and is under a Winter Storm Warning.

Expect snow and sleet to develop after 10pm in most areas, changing to all sleet overnight.

The dreaded “Wintry Mix”

Today will see increasing clouds as another cold front moves through the region tonight. The front will have a little moisture with it, and will produce scattered flurries overnight as it crosses the state.

The main weather story is the storm system that will begin to affect the area tomorrow night.
