Showers and Thunderstorms Likely Today

Current Surface Map
A stalling cold front just to our north will continue to be the focus for shower and thunderstorm development. A weak area of low pressure is expected to develop along the front, keeping the chance of rain in the forecast through Saturday.

Expect showers and thunderstorms to develop this afternoon. Some of the storms could produce locally heavy rainfall. Highs will push into the low 90s.

Temperatures will be about 10 degrees cooler tomorrow, with more showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Highs will top out in the low 80s.

Mostly Sunny, Afternoon Storms

…HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM THIS MORNING TO 9 PM EDT THIS EVENING…

Current Surface Map

Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop this afternoon with some of the storms possibly becoming severe with damaging wind and large hail. Highs today will again be near 100 degrees, with heat index values topping 105.

The cold front will slowly move southward, continuing rain chances tonight and tomorrow but more importantly it will drop temperatures about 10 degrees. Highs tomorrow will be around 90. Additionally, showers and thunderstorms are likely again tomorrow as the front remains in the area.

Two More Days of Heat

Current Surface Map
High pressure over the southern Appalachians will continue to push warmer air into the region today and tomorrow.

Temperatures are expected to approach 100 degrees this afternoon under mostly sunny skies. Although it will be hot, dew points are expected to drop into the 60s which will keep heat index values down.

The humidity will return tomorrow as a cold front approaches from the northwest. Expect scattered showers and thunderstorms to develop possibly becoming severe and producing locally heavy rainfall. Highs will be in the mid 90s.

Here Comes the Heat Again

Another mini heat wave is coming to the region for the first half of this week. Hazy, hot and humid conditions are expected through Wednesday.

Today will be partly sunny with a slight chance of an isolated shower or thunderstorm this afternoon. Highs will be in the mid 90s.

Expect more sunshine on Tuesday and as a result, warmer temperatures. Highs will be in the upper 90s to near 100.

A cold front will approach on Wednesday, increasing thunderstorm chances during the afternoon and evening as temperatures again push into the mid to upper 90s. Some of the storms may be strong to severe.

Mostly Sunny, Isolated Thunderstorms

Current Surface Map
The stationary front to our south will continue to sink further south today, keeping the best rain chances south of here. There will be a slight chance of an isolated shower or thunderstorm this afternoon with otherwise mostly sunny skies. Highs today will push into the mid 80s.

Slight rain chances continue through tonight and into tomorrow as temperatures remain seasonal. Highs will be in the mid to upper 80s.

The front will begin to move back northward on Thursday as a warm front. Before the front moves in, expect a pleasant day on Thursday with highs in the mid 80s under mostly sunny skies.

Unsettled and Much Cooler

Current Surface Map
A cold front has brought an end to the oppressive heat wave that brought triple digit heat to the region the past week. Additionally, it has touched off showers and thunderstorms as it has moved and now stalled over the state.

Expect showers and thunderstorms to continue today, becoming more scattered this afternoon. Highs will top out in the low to mid 80s.

The front will sag further south tomorrow, lowering rain chances but an afternoon shower or storm can’t be ruled out. Highs tomorrow will be in the low 80s under partly sunny skies.

Scattered Showers and Thunderstorms Today

Current Surface Map
A cold front will move through the state today. Ahead of the front, showers and thunderstorms are developing. These showers and storms will affect the western part of the state by late morning and move eastward through the day. Some of the storms may become strong this afternoon as they move through central Maryland bringing gusty winds and large hail. Highs today will push into the mid 80s.

The front should clear the state tonight, bringing an end to the rain and allowing high pressure to move in with cooler air. Tomorrow will be pleasant, with highs around 80 degrees under sunny skies. Wednesday will be a few degrees warmer, but still extremely nice for late June.

Showers and thunderstorms likely this afternoon

Current Surface Map
A cold front will move across the area this afternoon into tonight, bringing relief from the heat and humidity. Yesterday we hit 100 degrees both here and at the airport. This tied the record set in 1923.

After a low of only 78 this morning, temperatures will climb into the low 90s this afternoon. The heat and humidity will combine with the front to allow showers and thunderstorms to develop this afternoon. Some of these storms could become severe, with damaging winds and dangerous lightning as the primary threats.

The front will cross this evening and tonight, pushing the showers and storms off the coast by morning. Cooler and drier air builds in behind the front as skies clear tomorrow. Highs tomorrow and Sunday will be in the mid to upper 80s with less humidity.

One more hot day

…HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 PM EDT THIS EVENING…

Current Surface Map
Today will be the last oppressively hot day for a while, as temperatures will once again approach 100 degrees. Combined with the humidity, heat index values will be near 105 this afternoon. A Heat Advisory is in effect until 10pm tonight.

There is a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms this afternoon in the higher terrain and that activity will weaken and move east, bringing a slight chance of rain into central Maryland overnight.

Tomorrow will still be warm, with temperatures in the mid 90s and thunderstorms likely in the afternoon. Some of the storms could be severe, with gusty winds and large hail.

Hazy, Hot and Humid

…HEAT ADVISORY NOW IN EFFECT FROM NOON TODAY TO 10 PM EDT THURSDAY…

The will not be much relief tonight, as temperatures will only fall to the mid 70s (around 80 in the cities) and heat index values will remain in the 80s to near 90.

Tomorrow is looking like it will be the hottest day, with highs approaching 100 degrees in most areas. Heat index values will again be around 105 degrees.
