A cold front will approach from the west today. Ahead of the front, temperatures will climb this afternoon into the upper 60s to near 70. Winds will also increase this afternoon, gusting to near 30mph.

Showers will develop later this afternoon, becoming more widespread this evening. Additionally, thunderstorms will be possible tonight.

Some of the storms may become severe with strong gusty winds. Rainfall totals of 1-2 inches are likely before the front clears the area early tomorrow morning.

Colder air will stream into the area tomorrow on gusty northwest winds. Highs will top out in the mid 40s.

Areas of sleet and freezing rain will continue to change to plain rain as we move through this morning. Temperatures across Central Maryland are around freezing at this time and will continue to rise. North and west of the cities, temperatures are a bit colder and will take a little longer to warm up.

All areas east of the mountains should be safely above freezing by noon.

Shower chances will continue this afternoon and into tonight.

Tomorrow we will be between storm systems as a warm front slowly pushes north of the state. Temperatures will warm into the low 50s under partly sunny skies.

A strong cold front will approach on Wednesday. Out ahead of it, temperatures will approach 60 degrees in most areas. The front will bring rain and even thunderstorms to the area Wednesday into Wednesday night. Some of the storms could be strong to severe, with damaging winds the main threat.

Strong Cold Front to Bring Storms Tonight

A strong area of low pressure continues to spin over the upper midwest and will bring a cold front through the state tonight. Ahead of the front, expect increasing cloudiness and breezy conditions today with highs around 70 degrees.

The front will approach this evening, spawning showers and embedded thunderstorms after dark. There is a slight risk that some of the storms turn severe, with damaging winds being the primary threat.

The front will clear the area tomorrow morning, bringing an end to the rain threat as drier air works in from the northwest. Decreasing clouds and highs in the low to mid 70s are expected.

Showers and Storms, Severe Weather Likely This Afternoon

A strong cold front is approaching from the west while an area of low pressure ahead of is bringing rainfall to the state. One round of rain pushed through overnight and another round is currently pushing in from the west.

The entire state is in a Slight Risk for severe weather this afternoon, with the greatest chances east of the mountains. The Storm Prediction Center has placed this area under a 10% chance of tornadoes this afternoon.

Expect rainfall to continue to build through the morning with thunderstorms developing after noon. The best chance for severe storms will be later this afternoon and evening as the front moves closer. Damaging winds, heavy rain and isolated tornadoes are possible. High pressure will deliver a mostly sunny day today with highs around 90 degrees.

The high pressure will be pushed off shore as a strong cold front approaches and move through the area tomorrow bringing numerous showers and thunderstorms to the state.

Some of these storms could become strong to severe tomorrow afternoon, with damaging wind gusts as the primary threat.

Mostly Sunny, Chance of Afternoon Storms

As a cold front works its way through the state today, expect mostly sunny skies, giving way to scattered showers and thunderstorms again this afternoon.

Some of the storms could become severe with damaging winds, especially along and east of I-95. Highs today will be in the upper 80s.

The front clears tonight and ushers in sunshine and drier air tomorrow. Highs will be in the mid to upper 80s.

Another front approaches on Friday, increasing moisture and rain chances again. Scattered thunderstorms are expected Friday afternoon and evening. These storms may also become severe. Highs will be around 90.

Partial Clearing This Morning; Afternoon Storms

The current light rain and drizzle that is moving through the area will clear in the next few hours. This will allow partial clearing to occur, helping to destabilize the atmosphere. Thunderstorms will develop this afternoon over the mountains and move eastward into the evening.

Depending on how much clearing occurs, some of these storms could become severe with damaging winds, large hail and even an isolated tornado. Highs today will be in the mid 80s.

The cold front moves through tomorrow, bringing another round of showers and thunderstorms during the day. Highs will again be in the mid 80s.

High pressure will control our weather today, bringing another mostly sunny day with temperatures in the upper 80s to near 90.

An area of low pressure will approach tomorrow and bring a cold front through the area on Wednesday. This will provide a focus for thunderstorm development tomorrow. Scattered thunderstorms are expected and some of these storms could become severe with damaging winds, large hail and even tornadoes. Highs will be in the upper 80s.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop over the mountains today and will move eastward into Central and Eastern Maryland through the afternoon and evening.

The activity will be isolated and most spots will remain dry. Any areas that do get a storm can expect brief heavy rainfall and gusty winds. Highs will be in the upper 80s.

As low pressure and a cold front approach tomorrow, rain and thunderstorm chances increase dramatically. Expect more widespread rainfall tomorrow afternoon and into the night with scattered thunderstorms as well. Some of the storms may become severe with damaging wind as the primary threat. As high pressure moves off the coast today, warm humid air will continue to flow into the area.

The airmass will support the development of isolated showers and thunderstorms this afternoon. Highs will be in the mid 90s with heat index values around 100.
