Sunny, Breezy and Nice Today

High pressure will build in from the west today, setting the stage for breezy but pleasant day. Highs today will top out around 80 degrees. Another cool night tonight, with lows falling to around 60 by sunrise tomorrow before the gradual warm up begins.

As the area of high pressure moves eastward and off the coast, the heat and humidity will begin to build. We will have one more day in the 80s tomorrow before approaching the low 90s on Thursday and pushing into the mid to upper 90s on Friday and Saturday.

Scattered Showers and Thunderstorms Today

A cold front will move through the state today. Ahead of the front, showers and thunderstorms are developing. These showers and storms will affect the western part of the state by late morning and move eastward through the day. Some of the storms may become strong this afternoon as they move through central Maryland bringing gusty winds and large hail. Highs today will push into the mid 80s.

The front should clear the state tonight, bringing an end to the rain and allowing high pressure to move in with cooler air. Tomorrow will be pleasant, with highs around 80 degrees under sunny skies. Wednesday will be a few degrees warmer, but still extremely nice for late June.

Showers and thunderstorms likely this afternoon

A cold front will move across the area this afternoon into tonight, bringing relief from the heat and humidity. Yesterday we hit 100 degrees both here and at the airport. This tied the record set in 1923.

After a low of only 78 this morning, temperatures will climb into the low 90s this afternoon. The heat and humidity will combine with the front to allow showers and thunderstorms to develop this afternoon. Some of these storms could become severe, with damaging winds and dangerous lightning as the primary threats.

The front will cross this evening and tonight, pushing the showers and storms off the coast by morning. Cooler and drier air builds in behind the front as skies clear tomorrow. Highs tomorrow and Sunday will be in the mid to upper 80s with less humidity.

One more hot day

Today will be the last oppressively hot day for a while, as temperatures will once again approach 100 degrees. Combined with the humidity, heat index values will be near 105 this afternoon. A Heat Advisory is in effect until 10pm tonight.

There is a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms this afternoon in the higher terrain and that activity will weaken and move east, bringing a slight chance of rain into central Maryland overnight.

Tomorrow will still be warm, with temperatures in the mid 90s and thunderstorms likely in the afternoon. Some of the storms could be severe, with gusty winds and large hail.

Summer begins at 7:09pm this evening and the weather will be appropriate. High pressure centered over the southeast will pump hot and humid air into the region, sending high temperatures into the mid to upper 90s today. The heat combined with the humidity will push heat index values above 100 degrees this afternoon.

The will not be much relief tonight, as temperatures will only fall to the mid 70s (around 80 in the cities) and heat index values will remain in the 80s to near 90.

Tomorrow is looking like it will be the hottest day, with highs approaching 100 degrees in most areas. Heat index values will again be around 105 degrees.

Here comes the heat

High pressure continues to work into the area, bringing with it heat and humidity. Highs today will push into the mid to upper 80s under partly sunny skies. There is a slight chance of a shower or thunderstorm in the mountains this afternoon. The threat will shift eastward tonight where an isolated shower is possible.

The heat continues to build tomorrow with highs in the mid 90s. The heat combined with the increase in humidity will push heat index values to near 100 degrees.

Thursday looks to be the hottest day of the week, with highs in the mid to upper 90s in most areas. Lows Thursday night will only fall into the 70s and may not fall past 80 in downtown Washington and Baltimore.

A cold front approaches on Friday, bringing a better chance of showers and thunderstorms. Highs Friday will be in the low 90s.

Showers today and tonight then a warm up

An area of disturbed weather is moving through the region today between high pressure over the midwest and another high pressure to the east. Expect showers to move through this morning, followed by scattered showers this afternoon and evening. Highs today will top out in the low to mid 70s.

Another area of showers will move through tonight into tomorrow morning before clearing the area. High pressure will build in from the midwest and slides off the coast, allowing temperatures to soar as we move towards midweek. Highs tomorrow will be in the mid 80s.

Pleasant weekend followed by a hot week

High pressure continues to dominate the weather, providing sunshine and temperatures in the upper 70s to low 80s this weekend.

The center of the high will shift off the coast as we move into the new work week. Clockwise flow around the high will allow southerly flow to bring more heat and humidity into the region while minimizing rain chances.

Highs on Monday will creep up into the mid 80s, pushing to near 90 on Tuesday and into the low to mid 90s by mid to late week.

Rainy Tuesday

A cold front remains to the west of the area today. Ahead of the front, moisture continues to stream through the state. Expect areas of showers and thunderstorms to continue to push through today and tonight. Rainfall totals of .75 inches with locally heavier amounts will be possible before the rain comes to an end later tonight. Highs today will be in the upper 70s to around 80 degrees.

The cold front will cross the state tonight, bringing an end to the rain from west to east. High pressure will build in tomorrow, clouds will decrease through the day and highs will top out around 80 degrees.

Warm and humid today, rain develops from west to east

Another warm day on tap as temperatures climb to around 90 degrees again. Humidity levels will also increase today making it feel even warmer. Meanwhile, an area of low pressure moving up the Appalachians will bring heavy showers and thunderstorms to the area. Rain is expected to develop this afternoon in the western portion of the state, and will overspread the rest of the state tonight.

Showers and thunderstorms will continue tonight and tomorrow. The biggest threat from this system will be the locally heavy rainfall. Overall, the entire state should see totals from .50 to .75 inches with isolated spots seeing totals over 2 inches.
