Rain changing to snow today

An area of low pressure has brought precipitation to the area this morning. Colder air working in from the northwest is changing it to snow. This changeover will continue through the morning hours from northwest to southeast.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for the counties north and west of I-95. In these areas, the changeover has already occurred and up to 6″ of snow may fall.

Further south, along I-95, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect. 1-3″ of snow is expected in these areas.

South and east of there, the rain will change over to snow later and a trace to perhaps an inch is expected. Souther Maryland and the lower eastern shore may not change over at all.

High pressure off the southeast coast will allow warmer air to continue to move into the region today and this weekend. Highs today will be in the mid 40s under partly sunny skies.

Tomorrow will be a few degrees warmer, with highs in the mid to upper 40s under partly sunny skies.

A cold front will move into the area Sunday into Sunday night. There is a slight chance of showers during the afternoon and evening hours as it moves through. Highs on Sunday will be around 50.

A cold front is to our west this morning. Ahead of the front, souther flow has pushed milder air up the coast and into our region. Temperatures this morning are around 40 degrees.

The front will make steady progress as it marches eastward today. Expect temperatures to begin to drop this afternoon, falling through the evening and reaching overnight lows in the single digits.

Tomorrow will be partly sunny, cold and windy. A Wind Chill Advisory goes into effect at 1am and will last through the morning hours as highs only reach the mid to upper teens tomorrow afternoon.

Yesterday’s snowstorm has departed the area and has brought in cold arctic air. Snowfall totals range from around 10″ near the PA border, to 7″ at BWI to 1-4″ across southern Maryland and on the lower eastern shore.

A Wind Chill Advisory is in effect for central Maryland until noon for wind chills to -15. Highs today will be in the low teens with gusty winds.

A clipper system will move into the area tomorrow, bringing a chance of snow showers during the afternoon along with more cold air. Highs will be in the low 20s.

Friday will be mostly sunny with highs around 20.

The snow shield continues to push eastward, and is overspreading I-95 at this time.

Meanwhile, cold air continues to pour into the area as temperatures are dropping into the 20s. Temperatures will continue to fall, reaching the teens by evening.

The snow will continue to push eastward and will overspread the entire state by noon. It will increase in intensity and become heavy at times during the afternoon hours.

A Winter Storm Warning is now in effect for the entire state and will remain in effect into tonight.

Forecast Update: Snow, heavy at times develops tomorrow morning

A moderate to high impact snowstorm will affect the area tomorrow. An arctic front is moving into the area from the north and will usher in very cold air. This will set the stage for an area of low pressure to form and move eastward over Virginia and then up the coast.

A Winter Storm Warning has been issued and goes into effect tomorrow morning for the entire state.

Snow will move into the area during the morning hours, starting around 3am in far western Maryland, between 8 and 10am in central Maryland and between 11 and noon on the eastern shore.

With high pressure to our south, today will be mostly sunny and milder with highs around 50.

Clouds will increase tonight as an arctic cold front moves towards the area. An area of low pressure will develop along the front as it moves through. The low will pass by to our south, bringing accumulating snowfall to the area tomorrow into tomorrow night.

A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for the entire state. Accumulations over 5″ are possible, especially south and east of I-95.

The storm system that brought snow to the state last night is now moving off the New England coast. Snowfall totals ranged from 1 inch in Southern Maryland to 7.5 inches in Harford county. For a listing of area snow totals compiled by the National Weather Service, click here.

Behind the system, gusty northwest winds are ushering in very cold air. Today’s high was at midnight and temperatures will remain in the upper teens to near 20 this afternoon.

Temps will likely fall into the single digits tonight before rebounding into the low 30s tomorrow under sunny skies.

A storm system is still on track to bring precipitation to the area this evening into tomorrow. The precip will start as rain or a rain/snow mix this evening then change to snow tonight.

Generally, 1-3″ are likely across central and southern Maryland while 2-4″ are likely across northern Maryland. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for that area.

The storm will strengthen rapidly as it pulls north of the area tonight into tomorrow. Winds will pick up, gusting to around 30mph as colder air is pulled into the area. Highs tomorrow will only be in the upper teens to around 20.

Temperatures will warm this weekend as southerly flow develops. Saturday will be mostly sunny with highs in the low to mid 30s.
