Decreasing clouds today

Current Surface Map
After a foggy start, high pressure will continue to move into the region today allowing for clearing skies and sunshine by this afternoon. Highs today will be in the upper 60s to low 70s.

A low pressure system and cold front will approach the area tomorrow, enhancing southerly flow and allowing temperatures to warm into the mid 70s under mostly sunny skies.

Clouds increase Friday night as the front nears, and scattered showers and thunderstorms will affect the state on Saturday. Latest model trends have the front clearing the area Saturday night causing the low pressure system that forms along it to track east of the area, decreasing the threat of heavy rain on Sunday and Monday. If this scenario plays out, there would still be a slight chance of rain, and it would be much lighter.

Scattered showers and storms this afternoon

Current Surface Map
An area of low pressure moving through the Great Lakes will drag a cold front through the state this evening. Ahead of the front, strong southwesterly winds will send temperatures into the 70s and set the stage for scattered showers and thunderstorms.

There is a slight risk that these storms could become severe with large hail and damaging winds as the primary concern. Be sure to check the radar and be aware of any possible watches and warnings that may be issued this afternoon.

The showers and storms will be pushed eastward and off the coast by later this evening as the cold front moves through.

As a storm system approaches, more warmth and moisture will be drawn northward and into the area, pushing Friday’s highs to near 80.

Rain chances increase Friday night and scattered showers and thunderstorms are likely Saturday.

Foggy start, showers and storms possible this afternoon

Current Surface Map
A back door cold front has moved through central Maryland and has stalled out just west of Washington, DC. This has allowed cooler, moist marine air to move into central and eastern Maryland.

Expect the front to be pushed back to the east as an upper level disturbance moves through this afternoon, bringing with it a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some of these showers and storms could produce locally heavy rain and gusty winds. Highs today will top out in the upper 60s to around 70 under partly sunny skies.
