Clearing and Breezy Today

Current Surface Map
The Nor’Easter spared us yesterday but brought over a foot of snow to parts of Northern New Jersey and almost 5 inches to Central Park in New York.

It continues to move northward and away from the area as high pressure moves in behind it. This will lead to clearing skies today, but will also cause winds to increase, gusting to near 30mph this afternoon.

Highs today will be in the low 50s.

Wintry Day on Tap

Current Surface Map
The Nor’Easter that was forecast to move up the coast will be close enough to the state to bring wintry precipitation, mainly across central and eastern Maryland.

The storm is currently situated off the Delmarva coast this morning. It will continue to strengthen as it moves north and will also continue to push light wintry precipitation into the state. Winds will increase today and into tomorrow, gusting to around 30mph.

Light precipitation has pushed into central Maryland where a light rain/snow/graupel mix is currently falling. Further south and east, light rain is falling.

The mix across central Maryland will eventually change to all snow later this afternoon and into this evening as colder air flows in from the north and evaporative cooling continues. The heaviest precip will fall late this afternoon and evening and the snow will taper off overnight.

Mostly Sunny Today; Nor’Easter Threat Diminishes

Current Surface Map
Today will be mostly sunny with highs in the upper 40s to low 50s. Clouds will increase tonight as low pressure over the southeast turns the corner and begins to move up the coast.

Models are converging on a solution that brings the low up the coast, but farther out to sea, meaning we will be on the fringe of it.

Rain chances and winds increase tomorrow, mainly for central and eastern Maryland, and taper off to the west. Highs will be in the mid 40s.

Expect light rain to continue tomorrow night, tapering off early Thursday. Highs will approach 50 degrees under decreasing clouds.

Behind the low, high pressure builds in for the end of the week and the weekend. Highs Friday will be around 50 under sunny skies.

Strong Cold Front to Bring Storms Tonight

Current Surface Map
A strong area of low pressure continues to spin over the upper midwest and will bring a cold front through the state tonight. Ahead of the front, expect increasing cloudiness and breezy conditions today with highs around 70 degrees.

The front will approach this evening, spawning showers and embedded thunderstorms after dark. There is a slight risk that some of the storms turn severe, with damaging winds being the primary threat.

The front will clear the area tomorrow morning, bringing an end to the rain threat as drier air works in from the northwest. Decreasing clouds and highs in the low to mid 70s are expected.

Low moves into New England, continuing rain chances

Current Surface Map
The area of low pressure that brought over an inch of much needed rain to the area yesterday will continue moving north into New England and will continue to bring heavy wet snow to the mountains and showers into Central Maryland. Additionally, strong northwest winds will develop on the backside of the storm. The combination of heavy snow and strong winds will cause damage to tree limbs and power lines in Western Maryland.

Highs in western Maryland will be in the 30s, further east highs will struggle into the upper 40s.

Mostly Sunny and Cool Today

Current Surface Map
Today will be mostly sunny and cool, with highs in the mid to upper 50s. Winds will pick up again this afternoon, gusting to near 30mph at times. The winds combined with low humidity levels will elevate the fire threat across the state through this evening.

Winds will diminish tonight and with clear skies, expect another cold night. The Freeze Watch that is in effect for Western Maryland will likely becoming a Freeze Warning as temperatures plummet to the low 30s. Elsewhere, expect lows in the mid 30s to near 40.

Mostly Sunny and breezy again today

Current Surface Map
As an area of low pressure continues to build over eastern Canada, dry and windy conditions will continue across the area. Expect highs today to be in the upper 60s with wind gusts to near 30 mph this afternoon. As a result of the continued dry and windy conditions, a Red Flag Warning remains in effect for the state. A Red Flag Warning means that the combination of strong winds, low humidity and warm temperatures will create “explosive fire growth potential.”

The low begins to move south towards our area tonight, it will help drag cooler air into the area. Lows tonight will drop to near 40 in the cities and to near freezing north and west.

Slight chance of a shower this evening

Current Surface Map

Today will be partly sunny, with highs in the upper 60s.  It will be breezy, with wind gusts to near 30mph this afternoon.

A cold front will cross the area late this afternoon, bringing a slight chance of showers through this evening.  Behind the front, temperatures will be about 10 degrees cooler tomorrow, under partly sunny skies.

Another disturbance will move through on Wednesday, bringing another chance of showers and more gusty winds.  Highs will again top out in the upper 50s.

Breezy and cooler today, temps plummet tonight

Current Surface Map
A cold front will cross the area this morning allowing colder Canadian air to move in on strong Northwesterly winds. Expect winds to increase through this morning and gust to near 30mph this afternoon. Highs today will top out around 60 before beginning to fall through the afternoon.

A freeze watch is in effect for Central and Southern Maryland, while a Freeze Warning is in effect for Northern and Western Maryland. As winds decrease tonight and skies clear, temperatures will drop to near or below freezing in most spots. Be sure to cover or bring inside any tender vegetation.
